Shaped like a pen, the intra-oral camera is inserted in the patient\u2019s mouth to check for abnormalities. Optimal lighting adjustment and picture size facilitates the detection of a range of dental problems (cavities, fissures, poor dental restorations, etc.) even better than traditional methods. The use of digital technology in dental treatments has exponentially increased in the last few years especially in restorative, implantology and other areas of dentistry. Intra-oral scanning techniques not only help dentists with more accurate, fast treatment, and improved hygiene standards; they make patients happier by providing greater comfort, increasing interaction with their dentist, and through the results they see, in real time, on-screen. How does an Intra-oral scanner work?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Thousands of images are captured by imaging sensors when the handheld, pen-like scanner is placed inside a patient\u2019s mouth, and a light source projected onto the area you wish to scan.Those images are processed by scanning software, which then generates an accurate 3D surface model showing the teeth and gingiva\u2019s geometry. This 3D model is displayed on a screen, and you can see it being generated as your teeth being scanned.<\/p>

One of the biggest benefits of using an intra-oral scanner is the improved accuracy of the digital impressions. With an intra-oral scanner, the digital impressions are much more precise, resulting in better fitting dental restorations such as crowns, bridges and appliances.<\/p>

Another benefit is that traditional impression methods can be time-consuming, requiring the dentist to mix and apply the impression material, wait for it to set, and then remove it from the patient\u2019s mouth. With an intra-oral scanner, the process is much quicker and easier. The scanner allows the dentist to take the digital impression in just a few minutes. This can save time and help to streamline the overall treatment process.<\/p>
